Making a List: In the Kitchen

This time of year, I spend a lot of time searching the web for ideas for gifts. I love to read what other people like, what they are asking for, and the one thing that can't find.

I thought I'd just go ahead and offer a collection of a few of my favorite things, in case you are a list-lover like me. Just call me Oprah. OK, don't. But still, you never know which idea might spark inspiration for the perfect gift for that hard-to-buy for person on your list.

This list is all about the kitchen!

 NUMBER 1
LINZER COOKIE CUTTER SET

I bought one of these cookie cutter sets the other day because I love Linzer Cookies at Christmas and Valentine's Day, but I have never made them myself. I am looking forward to making them with the kiddies over Christmas break. I was thinking this would be a fun stocking stuffer or Secret Santa gift for someone who likes to bake.

NUMBER 2
HEAT RESISTANT RUBBER SPATULAS

I recently got a set of these heat resistant rubber spatulas. I really don't remember how I cooked without them now. I got the teeny, tiny one that scrapes out soup cans and measuring cups. I will be adding more of these to my collection. :)

NUMBER 3
SILPAT BAKING MATS

Don't ask me why I think I need these. To be honest, I don't have any trouble in the baking department...and yet, like a child in a toy store, I spotted these in the local kitchen store, and on PW's cooking site. And now I need to try them. Need is a very strong word. How about: I surely think I'd like to play around with these!

NUMBER 4
PIONEER WOMAN COOKS
Speaking of Ree, I want this. I almost feel bad wanting it because I use her website, so you would think I would not need a book to store, but I do....I mean, I want. :)

NUMBER 5
KITCHEN AID POURING SHIELD

If there is a cook on your list who uses a KitchenAid, this is a great add-on that will make their life easier.  This keeps the flour or or milk from flying out of the mixing bowl when you fire it up.This is great because the flying thing happens a lot more with a KitchenAid than it does with an electric mixer.

These are just a few ideas. I'll be sharing a few more coming up.

I'd love to know what's on your list this year!

Jami - My family has an uber-crazy "list making" frenzy that goes on for months. The 3 brothers-in-laws of we 3 girls stil don't get it after all of these years.

It hits the minute we "PICK THE NAMES"...a summer time ceremony where the 7 adults's names are paired up by one of the children, usually the youngest available as they are least swayed and bribed to "pick again". Then the 7 cousins and maybe an occasional pet are picked and paired too. Then the list making begins and they fly over email to all.

Tim and Maggie, "Trouble and Trouble", rarely make lists. Now 16 years old, they cannot fathom wanting anything. They are both laid-back and both hate for you to spend little money on them but if you wish to drop a grand, call them and they will spend it on fantastic electronics or more importantly, plane tickets to see the other since one is in IL and one in NC and they miss each other terribly. To them a week visiting each other is all they really want. We could all learn from them I think.

The other 5, all girls, have lists and lists and lists pages long. The sisters and mom have lists...the brother -in -laws....rarely.

I will send you our finds separately. I wouldn't know how to add to your site.

Love your blog, Debbie Furman

Hi Jami! Just stumbled upon your blog and am adding it to my blogroll! Beautiful pictures and yummy recipes- not what you'll find on my blog so I need to visit! LOL
I NEED that shield. Really, I do. But I'm asking for- a Cuisinart ice cream maker. That fancy $250 one. Yes, I know it's December. I'll pretend we live in Australia.
