Eating in Chicago

When you think of eating in Chicago you probably picture hot dogs or pizza, right? Please make no mistake, those things are there, but there is so. much. more!

This picture makes my heart go pitter-patter. :)

Over the holiday weekend, we took a short trip to Chicago. One of the goals we had while there was to EAT. And eat, we did! In fact, we ate so much that I forgot to capture most of what we ate. I was too busy stuffing my face full of Philipino food and Chicago dogs and this:

Welcome to ICOSIUM KAFE, an Algerian restaurant in Chicago.

As we walked by the door, I was overtaken by the yummy aromas wafting out the door of this place. I couldn't wait to go in!

Mint tea with honey. Isn't it cute? And it was yummy too!

Here is a picture of the first crepe, which was loaded with bell peppers, tomatoes, feta cheese, fresh basil and other greens and topped with scallions and walnuts. I didn't think it could get any better than this, but then...

The second crepe: Roasted peppers, fresh basil, goat cheese, caramelized onion, fresh roma tomatoes,
pine nuts, Roasted Garlic and baby Spinach...heaven in a crepe!

Note the lamb soup. Oh my!

Here's what it looked like once we started attacking it. There was a lot of moaning and lip smacking going on at our table. We may have caused a teensy distraction to those around us. But we were undeterred. On we gobbled, until we had pretty much licked the plates clean!

All the kids' drinks were served with these little umbrellas. They LOVED it!

A raspberry crepe filled with Belgian dark chocolate.
There are no words...

And as if that weren't enough, that is homemade pistachio ice cream on the side. I may have passed out on the table, were it not for the fact that the other five forks were shoveling this thing away like there was no tomorrow. It was no time to be incapacitated!

If you have never paired pistachios and raspberries, let me take a moment to recommend it highly. It's one of my favorite combos.
De-lish!

I cannot wait to go back!

Oh. Myword. That looks so amazingly delicious. I'm literally drooling on my keyboard right now...Do these dishes have official names? (You know, just in case I luck out someday and get to order them?)

I love that picture you took of The Kennedy. There's something amazing when you drive in and see the skyline...pitter patter is right. Eating in Chicago - there aren't enough days in a lifetime to eat all the fab food here. My waist line thanks me.

Thanks for visiting my blog! Your version of chocolate Zucchini cake looks awesome, as does that Algerian restaurant! I'll have to add it to my list of places to visit next time I'm in Chicago.
