So you can see that when I run across something like this, I have to bring it up.
Have you heard of this guy? Chef Daniel Angerer?
I had not, until today when an email arrived in my inbox. It contained this link
Here is the gist of it:
This guy, who is a chef. and his "spouse" had a baby. Apparently she is pumping like a madwoman (it does not state why she pumps), so much so that they ran out of freezer space! She is in the process of applying to become a donor, which totally rocks! Yeah milk donors! (...had to get that in there. :)
Anyhow, in the mean time they were not sure what to do with all the milk. This truly baffles me as supply=demand. Perhaps she should slow down the pumping? Well, that is not what this article was about so the details are few...left to my wild and CRAZY imagination. Dangerous.
But the chef got an idea. Let's make breastmilk cheese!
I can assure you this is the last thought that would cross my mind if put in the very same situation.
But he did.
And here is the result:

Doesn't it look just yummy?
The good news is you can age it, to get different flavors; roll it in ground mushrooms, or nuts...the possibilities are endless.
Tell me, what would you do if you had too much milk? Would you make cheese? Or...something else?

Wow. I would definitely not be making cheese. Maybe I would get prego again, and give it to the newborn in a bottle! LOL
uughhh..! I'm so jealous of this chef's wife! =(
I couldn't breast feed my LO and it made me very upset because my heart was set on it.
If I pumped that much breast milk, I'd would have done like that lady on the talk show that sold hers online! Yep...make money off it...of course, you can donate it, but you have to go through all kinds of OSHA loops for safety. Too much work, so, sell it online. Big demand, so I've heard.
The cheese, though...looks good! I bet it's healthier too!
Huh. I bet it has a sweetish flavor like mascarpone... Giada would be all over that! Well I've had excess milk and I blend it with ice cream and feed it to my toddler as milk shakes when he's sick or not eating well. Gross right? Oh well, it works! Yeah, I'd um, chill on the pumping though. Definitely.
Ok! I am just not so sure if I knew it was breastmilk cheese that I could eat it! I am feeling nauseated a little bit!! I think I would just slow down on the breast feeding if I was her. I bet her boobs are just huge too!!! LOL
I definitely would not be making cheese with it. That's a little too strange for me. I would however SLOW down on the pumping....
I'm like Lluvia - I couldn't produce milk, so this is like an excess of riches for me. I probably would've donated it or, hello, slowed down pumping. I guess she has to keep up her supply to be a donor, though.
OK, I would totally try it. I would have been happy just to produce enough milk to feed my babies alone.
I don't know if I'd try it or not. It just seems so... I don't know... almost intimate. Like I don't even know this woman, but here's some of her breastmilk made into cheese?
Maybe she kept pumping so much so that her husband could "suddenly" come up with some crazy scheme and get his name/restaurant media attention all around the nation.
Um no... I wouldn't make cheese. I don' think I'd even think of that...
Icks... I'm really sure about this one. Maybe, it's that I was unable to have kids. So, to be honest. I think I like my plain old cheddar.
Psssst.... I do know what a stingray is, but not much to take pictures of here. Especially, with this rainy weather.
