I finished Envy last night. What an enjoyable read it was! It truly brought back all the excitement of the Luxe (which I thought Rumors missed a bit).
Now, from a parent's perspective: this is a lovely series for teens. There are allusions to premarital sex, but always set in contrast to how a lady behaves and negative consequences are definitely born from each "transgression". Because of the setting (1900's New York Society) there is a lot of emphasis on old-fashioned values; for better or worse. I think the author strikes a nice balance between examining the sexist restrictions put on young ladies of this period, and waxing a bit nostalgic about simpler times when virtue was desirable. On top of that, she is an excellent writer so it is quickly consumed and thoroughly enjoyed.
As a side note: I love that she uses some vocabulary that will challenge the reader without seeming pretentious. A plus in any novel!
